Debate

England
vs
Canada

Now as some of you may or may not know I am Canadian. I moved to England to marry the love of my life and haven't looked back since. After two years we have decided to settle somewhere and start a family. We both agreed that if the Canadian government allowed me to sponsor my husband we would move back and settle there. The problem is that now I am having doubts. I have some amazing friends in England and don't want to leave them. On the other hand, my whole family is in Canada and would like to watch my kids grow up.

This is where you come in. I want you to give me some pros and cons for either Canada or England to help me make my decision. If all else fails, I can always toss a coin.

well, let's look at it this way. In Canada you are geographically closer to the US and in the UK you are politically closer to the US. I know which one i prefer!!

You moved to England to marry Baileys? Don't they serve that in Canada?

Anyway- I've only been to Canada once and I've lived in the UK all my life so my personal bias probably means I'm the wrong person to ask. For me it would have to be Canada. I fell in love with the place but admit that the reality of living there would obviously be different.
The biggest thing I would miss would be family and friends.
From what I saw Canada is cleaner than the UK, the people are nicer and the music and food are better.
So why am I still here? I'm waiting for you to go out to Canada so you can sponsor me of course! Stop thinking about it and go!
On a more serious note I would be sorry to see you leave. Who else would point out the women that are checking me out (or possibly mugging me)?

Hi, I was just visiting from neath's blog and thought I could say a few things as a Canadian living in Canada. Although, I never been to England before, so I might be a little bias, well actually, I will be totally bias.

Canada is great. From what I have heard about England, the cost of living there can be quite high. There are places in Canada that are also very expensive, like the major cities of Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. But other than that, its a fairly reasonable place to live. I live in Saskatchewan, and it is dirt cheap to live here, but then of course, you are living in Saskatchewan. :)

So I guess it depends on what you value more, history and culture, or reasonable living costs and super nice people. I'm sure England is very nice, and a great place to live, but for my money, I would stay in Canada for sure. And when you live here, you get to make fun of Americans all the time. I guess you could do it from England as well, but its more fun when you are right next door to them. :)

Hey Wes,
You see I AM CANADIAN (reference to beer commercial). I lived in Toronto for 17 years. I moved to England to marry a Brit and now we're thinking of moving back to Canada but I'm having second thoughts. Just needed some pros and cons to sway me either way.

Well, you know what I think--you've heard my highly subjective reasons for staying on this side of the pond. I'd be really, really, REALLY sad to see you go, but not for too long, because I figure you'll be back the moment we're both pregnant! ;)
